Do you still think that only Disney princesses have it? Think twice and be ready to transform your skin care routine for the best!

Your skin type matters

The most important thing in any skin care routine is to establish it properly based on your skin type. Using the products just for their recognition or popularity makes as much sense as drinking milk while you are lactose intolerant because your granny calls it healthy.

DRY SKIN

Throughout the day dry skin may feel heavy and may experience noticeable flaking. Dry skin is mainly due to genetics, environmental influences like lifestyle & nutrition, shifts in hormones, and ecosystem. Dehydration is also a leading cause of dry skin, so drinking plenty of water and avoiding diuretics like alcohol can make a significant difference in how your skin feels.

OILY SKIN

Often, excess oil can remain pores congested and obstructed. The happy news, however, is that oily skin looks younger and more supply because it has more natural moisture and is less prone to wrinkle. Daily enzymatic exfoliation is essential to promote cell turnover and prevent sebum buildup in pores. A mild physical exfoliator is also useful for maintaining the color and texture of your skin.

COMBINATION SKIN

People with normal / combination skin often encounter dryness on their cheeks, which makes it essential to select a moisturizer that is not too strong but one that is sufficiently designed to maintain moisture. Those with normal skin are not prone to breakouts on their cheeks and tend to have a well-moisturized t-zone. Mild, regular exfoliation is also essential to maintain the balance of the t-zone and cheek areas. Moisturizers with a gel-like texture are absorbed more quickly and less likely to cause breakouts.

SENSITIVE SKIN

Taking care of sensitive skin can be challenging, as determining which components trigger inflammation and irritation requires significant time and effort. To make this process easier, introduce only one new formula or product at a time. This principle refers to cosmetics as well as skin care. Patch testing your inner forearm with a new formula is a great way to minimize potential facial reactions.

How to determine your skin type?

Big question! Here are two most common ways to figure it out.

The Bare-Faced Method

Thoroughly clean your face with a gentle cleanser and pat softly dry. Leave skin loose (and do not use extra moisturizers, serums or medications). Review your cheeks, nose, chin and neck for any shine after 30 minutes. After another 30 minutes, analyze whether your skin feels parched, especially if you smile or make any other facial expressions. If your skin feels tight, your skin is likely dry. If there is noticeable shine on your nose and forehead, your skin is most likely normal/combination. If in relation to your forehead and nose, there is shine on your cheeks, you are most probable to have oily skin.

The Blotting Sheet Method

This method is much faster and often an excellent differentiator between oily and dry skin types. Gently pat a blotting paper on the different areas of your face. Hold the sheet up to the light to determine how much oil is visible. If the sheet picked up little to no oil, you most likely have dry skin. If the blotting sheet reveals oil from the forehead and nose areas, your skin is normal/combination. Finally, if the blotting paper is saturated with oil, it is extremely likely that you have oily skin.
